The Anchorage B&B - John O'Groats

A few weeks ago during a road trip from Lands End to John O'Groats I made the magnificent discovery of The Anchorage.

When I knew I needed to find a reasonably priced B&B in John O'Groats I had my eye on this one from the start. The double standard room was only £60 per night, facilities were separate although you would only be sharing the toilet with one other room who had their own en-suite, this price also included free wifi and a full English breakfast...and I mean FULL, but I'll get to that later.

Initially I chose this B&B for its good price and perfect location. only a minute drive to the Duncansby stacks, close to the ferries that run to and from the Orkney Isles and only a short drive to Dunnet Head (The most northerly point in the UK). When arriving at The Anchorage I found that it was much more. It really is the most beautiful house in the most beautiful location. The host Gail and her husband have decorated the house beautifully and Gail really knows how to make you feel right at home. The bedroom and bathroom was immaculately clean and the fluffy bathrobes were the icing on the cake to make your stay extra cosy.

Gail had great knowledge of the area and recommended places to eat and even suggested takeaways in the area.  The breakfast in the morning was amazing, me and my partner decided that we would try local foods while we were in Scotland and Gail had it all in with the breakfast, Haggis, Black Pudding, White Pudding and the rest. If you didn't want a fry up there was the most amazing spread with a great choice of cereals, fresh fruit and yoghurt to choose from.

One of my favourite things about this hidden gem was the nearby beach where you really felt like you were the only people in the world. We saw seals, and puffins but other reviews mention seeing orka whales and dolphins.

Our one night stay ended up being a two night stay purely for the fact it was the nicest place we had ever stayed. If in the area I would definitely recommend staying at The Anchorage as I cannot pick a single fault with it.
